"It feels like the weekend isn't over yet."
Monday morning. Emilia came in to work on time and read the reports on her monitor.
The aftermath of Friday night's party at the H.R TOWER in New York still lingered.
But the approval requests that had piled up over the weekend made no allowances for personal circumstances.
She worked through the documents from the overseas subsidiaries one by one. She was about to open the next email when a subject line further down stopped her hand.
H.R AMERICA HOLDINGS Cooperation Request
The sender was Charlotte Bennett. Beneath the name was a title she hadn't had as recently as Friday.
Chief Executive Officer.
"What? She's already the chief?"
Emilia looked at the screen again.
It was the same Charlotte who'd been Westbridge Real Asset Partners' Director of Real Estate Investment.
Over the weekend, she'd quit her firm and become chief of the American company Ha Tae-ung had set up.
The email was concise.
It asked for help on three fronts: materials for expanding the business in America, introductions to local financial institutions and investment firms, and a review of candidate real estate and corporate acquisitions.
It also asked how far H.R's American business could cooperate with the Lorenz side going forward.
There wasn't a single sentence that flaunted her new title or leaned on their acquaintance.
It pinpointed exactly what was needed and waited for Lorenz's answer.
Emilia sat up straight, away from the chair back, and thought back to Friday night's party.
Charlotte had moved among the guests connecting the people who needed to meet, and whenever it mattered, she'd checked the party's flow through the staff.
One look at her then was enough to see that her success in closing the H.R TOWER deal had been no accident.
Small wonder Ha Tae-ung had made her chief of the first business he was setting up in America.
"Hmm……."
Emilia rolled a pen between her fingers.
It was good to have someone capable assisting the Grizzly, but Charlotte standing at his side as the chief of his business wasn't exactly welcome news.
