Jensen Wang watched with interest as Ha Tae-ung went up onto the podium.
He'd come to this party as a favor to Go Junyong.
His old business partner had come all the way to America and brought up this party out of the blue.
A housewarming on Wall Street, he'd called it.
Jensen happened to have business in New York anyway, so he'd had no real reason to say no. He and Go Junyong shared an old bond, one most people knew nothing about.
Long ago, Nenvidia had been nothing like the giant it was now. Back then, it had been Jensen who came knocking on Ilseong's door first.
It felt like ancient history now, but there had definitely been a time when he'd held out his hand to Ilseong, explaining his business and talking up its potential.
As the years passed, their positions had changed a great deal.
These days, it was Go Junyong who came looking for Jensen more often. Jensen knew why, too.
The foundry.
Ilseong had been pouring enormous sums into growing its contract chip manufacturing business for years.
But most of the core volume Nenvidia handed out still went to DSMC.
Business wasn't decided by affection or loyalty.
Who could make the chips more reliably, what the yields and prices were, whether they could deliver the volume needed on time: in the end, the numbers decided.
On that score, Ilseong was still a notch below DSMC.
Go Junyong knew that perfectly well. That was why he kept clinging so doggedly to the field.
Lately he'd even been gearing up to make high-bandwidth memory, the HBM that AI chips needed, trying to grow Ilseong's presence across the whole supply chain.
Every time they met, the conversation took a slightly different turn, but in the end it always came back to the same point.
He wanted bigger deals with Nenvidia!
The man really doesn't know how to give up.
Jensen couldn't help smiling.
And yet this time, Go Junyong hadn't even brought up semiconductors.
All he'd said was that there was a fun party in New York…
