"Is there something on my face?"

Charlotte Bennett set down her glass of red wine as she asked. She didn't mind the way the man across from her was looking at her.

Changing at the office and choosing even her perfume so carefully had paid off.

"You've got a different air from yesterday."

"Which is better??"

"Today."

"Why?"

"Because today you're sitting across from me."

"What? Hahaha."

Charlotte burst into a bright laugh.

He was good-looking, and smooth with his words, too. She thought she understood a little why Emilia had stayed at his side.

"Then I'd better not disappoint you. What would you like to hear about tonight?"

"I'm looking at buildings."

It was the answer she'd been hoping for. But Charlotte didn't jump straight into listings as if she'd been waiting for it.

Saying you had liquid assets and actually being able to raise the money were two completely different things.

"For investment?"

"I'm planning to set up an investment company in America. I'm looking for an office and somewhere to live, under one roof."

"So you're thinking of buying rather than leasing."

"If the terms are right."

Charlotte quietly set down her knife.

"Just because prices have come down lately doesn't make everything a good property. Sometimes you buy cheap and then end up spending more on repairs and vacancies."

"That's why I'm meeting with you, Charlotte."

"You trust me?"

"Because you'll want to keep doing business with me."

It wasn't what she'd expected him to say. Charlotte took another careful look at the man in front of her.

He was young, and rich on top of it. He didn't look like someone who'd nod along to her explanations and get carried away by the mood at the table.

"You mean you'll be a long-term client?"

"If you like the first deal."
