Chapter 362: The Rules I Set (22)

The Lorenz Building, New York. On Saturday morning, the representative director's office looked no different than it did on a weekday.

The market was closed, but clients who'd entrusted their money to the firm weren't going to wait.

Robert Lorenz's monitor showed where the funds stood and what was up for the investment committee's review.

His calendar was packed with the names of investors he would meet next week.

He was going over papers and schedules when the secretary came in.

"I have a report on Director Emilia."

"Go on."

"She didn't go home last night."

Robert's hand stopped on the mouse.

"She stayed out all night?"

"Yes."

"With that Korean?"

"That's right. After the party, they went to the Mandarin Oriental, where Ha Tae-ung is staying. They drank together at the hotel bar, and she wasn't seen going home afterward."

Robert stared at the secretary without a word.

"Until morning?"

"Yes. We weren't able to confirm their movements inside the room, though."

This was a secretary who knew the difference. Anything no one had actually seen stayed out of the report; the secretary didn't guess.

But even that much was enough for Robert. A cold sneer spread across his lips.

"Foolish girl."

If his brother had lived to see this, what would his face have looked like?

In life, his brother had been proud of how independent Emilia was.

While other families worked to pull their children into the business, he had let Emilia study whatever she wanted.

And now his brother's fiercely independent daughter had lost her heart to some Korean stranger and stayed out all night!

Oddly, Robert felt a sense of triumph, as if on this one point he had finally beaten his brother.

She thinks a pup like that is the rope that'll pull her up?

It was a mistake young women raised in good families often made.

Some men weren't cowed by the world those women had grown up in. When they met one, they mistook him for someone special.

Even the hint of danger about him struck them, in the moment, as charm.
