Ning Chen's Broken Dream Sword was leaning against the bed.

Xiao Yanxi didn't even look. She flicked it up with her heel, and with a sharp rasp the long sword leaped from its sheath.

She caught the hilt and thrust like lightning.

The dagger stabbing at Ning Chen was knocked aside.

Ning Chen said, "Do as she says."

"Yes!"

The soldiers took the assassin away.

Ning Chen stared at Xiao Yanxi, astonished.

She only ever handled intelligence. Who knew she could fight like that?

Ning Chen laughed. "You never let on. I nearly forgot you're one of the Great Beginning Pavilion's famous Four Young Masters... Nice moves!"

Xiao Yanxi smiled faintly. "Next to someone like Tantai Qingyue, the first in the martial arts, I'm a long way behind, of course. But one or two assassins are no problem... Otherwise, do you think they'd dare leave me here alone to look after you?"
