Tantai Qingyue gave a slight nod. "That was the idea at first."

Ning Chen gave a cold, self-mocking laugh. He got up and went into the inner room.

Tantai Qingyue looked lost.

Xiao Yanxi shook her head and sighed, then lowered her voice. "Ning, dear thought you were hunting Kang Baobao for his sake.

He'd never say so, but it moved him... Otherwise he wouldn't have raced a thousand li to Bianzhou, never mind the hardship, to save you.

And then you say it was only to win back the Xiliang prisoners. Anyone would be let down hearing that."

Tantai Qingyue said, "But I did it to win back the Xiliang prisoners and for him. The two do not conflict."

Xiao Yanxi was left utterly speechless. "Then you should have said so..."

In the inner room, Ning Chen sat on the edge of the bed, sulking.

Then he took a jade pendant out of his robe... It was the Heavenly Yang Pendant.

He thought for a moment, picked up the pillow at the head of the bed and took another pendant out of it.

This one was the real Earthly Yin Pendant.

He held one pendant in each hand and wondered. Could joining these two things really twist time and space and take you back to the past?

He'd crossed over himself, so he was willing to believe in plenty of strange and outlandish things.

But two jade pendants twisting time and space? That was just too ridiculous.

Ning Chen held the two pendants, itching to try.

What if he put them together and really did cross back?

Pfft. Two pieces of jade? How could they send anyone back?

Ning Chen gritted his teeth and pressed the pendants together. There was a click as the notches on the two locked into place, a perfect fit.

He tossed the joined pendant onto the bed and got as far away from it as he could.

If the thing really could send a person back, then the moment anything happened, he'd still have time to get out of the room.

There was far…
