The Ilhyeon baseball club's Seoul office was passing an idle stretch of time.

People reading newspapers, people leaning back in their chairs napping, people flipping through magazines or listening to music on Walkmans — most of the staff were spending their time on things other than work.

It was the off-season, to be sure, but it was also because the newly arrived CEO hadn't handed down any particular instructions.

"What are you up to?"

Director Jeong-seop Yun, head of the support division, was making his rounds of the office when he put the question to an employee reading a newspaper.

The employee, gazing at the paper with a very grave expression, answered,

"I'm agonizing over what to do."

"Why? Is something the matter?"

Director Jeong-seop Yun looked down at the newspaper the employee was studying too.

The page the employee was looking at carried a stock quotation table. Staring down at that table with a serious face, the employee answered,

"A company's shares I bought a while back dropped again yesterday. So now I'm agonizing over whether I should sell this or buy more."

"Have you taken a big loss?"

"Not a big one yet… but with it falling and falling, it's got me down."

When the agonizing employee raised his head, another employee who'd been listening from the side cut in.

"Now's not the time to sell."

Director Jeong-seop Yun turned his head to look at the one who'd cut in.

With a serious expression, he explained to both the agonizing employee and Director Yun.

"Stocks and gambling are just like waves. There are times they rise and times they fall… but there's no such thing as rising forever or falling forever. Like waves, there's a flow to it."

"So you're saying since it's falling now, it'll rise someday?"

"Obviously."

The one who'd cut in rapped the newspaper with his hand and said,

"The composite index right now is 900. Compared to the last peak, that's barely a drop of ten percent or so. This is nothing more, nothing less than a healthy correction — a move you see…
