Above Yue Yang’s head, a Solar Bell had appeared.
No one had seen when it arrived.
Almost identical to the real one — except smaller, somewhat less imposing, with a quality that could only be described as cute, which caused Xiao Wenli, standing behind Yue Yang, to develop small stars in her eyes. She appeared to find the aesthetic deeply appealing. The aesthetic was, of course, entirely beside the point — what mattered was the ability. And this charming little Solar Bell had, somehow, the ability to reverse time.
Within a hundred meters of Yue Yang’s body, Ming Rihao and the others felt it — a sudden return of energy, flowing back in, filling the space that the ten thousand years of accelerated flow had carved out. Strength returned. Complete.
Beyond the hundred-meter boundary, several Sky-rank cultivators who had been attempting escape had not been so fortunate. They were mummies now. The distance had made the difference.
“You have a Solar Bell?” Ming Rihao stared. His brain was reaching the edge of its operational envelope. “Not a phantom — an actual Solar Bell?”
“That’s impossible!” The Hanged Man’s composure broke entirely.
“A phantom?” The Poet was calmer than anyone else, scanning for inconsistency. “Something is off.”
“It’s not a phantom,” the Two-Faced King said, flatly. “A phantom couldn’t restore Ming Rihao’s condition. The Bell’s form may be replicated, but the time reversal is real.”
The Solar King’s gaze had gone cold. He looked at Yue Yang the way a lion king looks at a young male who has grown larger than he should have — the deep instinctive recognition that a hierarchy is being contested, combined with everything that came with having built something over a lifetime and watching a newcomer approach the threshold of it. Jealousy from somewhere real. The particular bitterness of effort confronting talent.
He himself had worked for everything he had.
This young man had been working for a few years.
Yue Yang’s exterior was easy. Internally, things were less comfortable.
He’d neutralized the first exchange — the Solar Bell plus the Time Domain’s age-flow, countered with his own reversal. But the Solar King had a range of tools that extended far past the two he’d deployed. The next assault wasn’t going to be this simple.
Ming Rihao reached up and touched the little Solar Bell floating above Yue Yang, curiosity overcoming discipline. “It’s real? Not a copy?”
Even the Revenge Domain Emperor was baffled. There was no logical mechanism by which Yue Yang should have a life-guardian war beast belonging to the Solar King. Duplication talents existed, but they replicated form, not function.
“You’re all idiots,” Yue Yang said, distributing one extended middle finger to the assembled group.
“Hmph!” The Rage Domain Emperor and the Radiance Domain Emperor both bristled — in the entire span of their very long existences, no one had spoken to them this way. Given that Yue Yang had just preserved their lives, and given that the Solar King was still watching, they swallowed it.
“I said the Solar King doesn’t control time,” Yue Yang said, the tone of a teacher running out of patience with a slow class. “If he controlled time — actually controlled time — we’d already be dead. He could have killed us at any point: before we arrived, after we left, at any moment of his choosing. Someone who truly controls time has no need to fight anyone, because the fight is already over at whatever moment he selects. The fact that he needs us here, contained, processed in sequence — that tells you everything.” He looked around the room. “What the Solar King controls isn’t time. It’s a small, specific space. His Restoration talent combined with the Solar Bell produces a Time Domain — a specialized energy field. To reinforce it, he’s added the Time Law. That’s the complete picture.” He paused, in the manner of a teacher waiting for understanding to arrive. “You’re all fixated on the surface. A true cultivator, encountering something unknown, maintains their own nature and digs toward the truth underneath. Instead, you all saw the appearance, panicked, and abandoned your own perspective. That’s not how a powerful person handles a mystery.”
“Maintaining one’s own nature,” Ming Rihao said slowly. Something moving behind his eyes.
“In the Sky Tower, there’s a Life-Death Gate. Every cultivator who passes it has to understand one thing: the difference between real illusion and illusory reality. Time flows. The ten thousand things change. But what does that have to do with us? We’re sovereign-realm cultivators. We’re half-divine. We stand in this world and watch everything else pass. Birth, death, flourishing, decay — what does any of it bind us to?”
He looked directly at Ming Rihao and said it with force.
“Nothing.”
Ming Rihao went still for one moment.
Then he threw his head back and roared.
His fists hit the stone floor. The impact traveled through the entire stone world — not destructive, but vast, the sound of something settling into place after being held too long at an angle. The light that erupted from his body was the kind that made the word blazing feel insufficient — gold, total, the quality of a sun that had been waiting for permission to exist at full capacity. His form reached ten meters, blazing like a second celestial body, and from the top of his head a column of energy rose with the unhurried power of something that had always been this size and had simply been contained.
Ming Rihao hadn’t just recovered.
He had advanced.
The Solar King could feel it. The Ming Rihao in front of him now exceeded the Ming Rihao who had arrived — not by a trivial margin, by a meaningful one.
The Revenge Domain Emperor’s eyes lit and kept lighting, energy building, the silver light around him expanding until the air around him had become a different kind of air: “My revenge isn’t finished. I cannot die yet. Today, even against the Solar King — I fight to the end!”
Silver light flooded outward from the Revenge Domain Emperor.
And faster than the silver, and broader, and covering more distance than either: a blood sea was forming around the Rage Domain Emperor, that old red tide that had nothing to do with anyone’s law or anyone’s domain except the one it had always belonged to.
The Radiance Domain Emperor still hadn’t moved. Still watching. Still calculating.
Three of the four had broken free of the Time Domain. Yue Yang had found the angle; they had found themselves from inside it.
“I made a mistake.” The Solar King’s voice was level again, controlled, but carrying something that hadn’t been in it before — a rare thing, genuine regret filtered through precise analysis. “I shouldn’t have waited. I shouldn’t have let Ming Rihao and the domain emperors arrive. If I’d moved the moment you first reached Greenvalley City, before all of this assembled, the result would have been different.” He breathed. “I understand it now. You’re the kind of monstrous talent who grows in combat. A peaceful life, a comfortable environment — you would have become nothing. It’s the consecutive crises, the situations that should have killed you, that have been forcing you forward. Every battle remakes you. Every time you survive something you shouldn’t, you emerge at a new level.” He looked at Yue Yang with the focused attention of someone filing a permanent record. “I shouldn’t have encouraged the Nine-Radiance Empress to move against the Sky Tower. If I had cleared your path for you instead — removed every obstacle, made everything easy — you might never have grown to where you are today. My error.” He paused, then — clearly, deliberately: “Silent King. Return to the Divine Hall. Report everything to the Elder Council and the Grand Hall Master. If I cannot kill Yue Yang — I will spend my life sealing him in this stone world. Let the seal stand forever. Never give this young man another opportunity to fight and grow.”
The Silent King descended slowly to one knee.
The Two-Faced King and the Eight Generals knelt where they stood.
The Solar King was willing to spend his life.
To contain one young man.
Ming Rihao and the domain emperors stared at this.
Does this person genuinely represent that level of threat to the Central Divine Hall? Enough that a figure like the Solar King would stake his own existence on containing him? That was treatment reserved for… not even the celestial realm’s major powers had received that.
The Silent King rose. He looked at Yue Yang — a long, absorbing look, the kind that wanted to keep what it saw — then turned and began walking out of the stone world, toward the spatial passage.
The Revenge Domain Emperor raised the Radiance God Sword and launched himself at the Silent King’s back: “I can’t beat the Solar King, but I can stop you from leaving!”
The Two-Faced King was still moving to intercept when the Rage Domain Emperor’s blood sea crashed overhead.
Ming Rihao turned his attention to the Radiance Domain Emperor — the one who still hadn’t chosen a side, still watching, preserving his options.
The Silent King didn’t turn around.
After the Radiance God Sword descended — after the Revenge Domain Emperor’s full power arrived at his back — he raised one hand. Caught it.
The Revenge Domain Emperor coughed blood. His silver light went dark. He stumbled back.
The Silent King’s gold hand was unmarked.
His steps had not paused.
Ming Rihao’s eyes had gone completely round.
Even I at full power couldn’t force the Revenge Domain Emperor to cough blood in a single exchange. The Silent King did it while walking, on defense, through body resonance alone, without redirecting any attention from his exit.
Which one is actually the Solar King?
Ming Rihao closed the distance and threw everything — a punch that shook the stone world at its foundations, the stone world’s structure giving under the force of it. The Silent King stopped. Stood straight. Didn’t look back. Extended his right hand behind him and received it.
The Silent King moved forward three steps.
Ming Rihao stumbled backward one large step.
The shockwave hit the stone world like an intention to end it.
The Solar Bell’s hands ticked back three seconds. The two bodies, the energies, the exchange — all of it unmade. The ground showed only evidence: the Silent King’s three footprints forward, Ming Rihao’s single step back. The exchange itself: gone.
With that level of defense, and the Solar King’s reversal available — there was no combination of forces present that could prevent the Silent King from leaving.
Ming Rihao looked at Yue Yang.
“Let him go. We can barely keep ourselves alive — intelligence reports are someone else’s problem.” Yue Yang hadn’t looked away from the Solar King once. The Solar King hadn’t looked away from Yue Yang once.
“Then I go first,” Ming Rihao said.
He left the Silent King. Turned. And charged.
Free of the Time Law’s interference, free of the Time Domain’s weight, he went at his actual speed — which was the speed of someone who had just recalibrated his understanding of what his own power was for. Space tore alongside him. The Revenge Domain Emperor was one step behind, the Radiance God Sword already moving.
Two peak powers. Two trajectories converging on the Solar King simultaneously.
The Solar King kept looking at Yue Yang.
His body moved — barely. A small shiver.
Ming Rihao felt a force of categorical magnitude detonate inside his chest and abdomen, and the world rotated, and he was in the air, and then he was in the ground, feet finding purchase before he was ready, pulling himself upright in time to see:
The Revenge Domain Emperor, who had been right behind him, pressed flat into the stone floor by one of the Solar King’s hands, the entirety of him buried to a depth that made struggling a theoretical exercise.
Ming Rihao opened his mouth to say something about this.
A column of blood came out instead.
So. That’s what the Solar King actually is.
The Solar King’s eyes had not left Yue Yang.
Not once.
In his mind, everyone else — Ming Rihao, the domain emperors, the Eight Generals, all of it — was peripheral. Stage furniture. The only real thing in the room was the question of what was going to happen between himself and this young man.
“Can you see the opening?” he asked.
Completely calmly.
Still looking only at Yue Yang.
