The most insane bout in history had begun.
A one-against-two never seen before, an insane duel never seen before. A single silver wolf, taking on several gold constructs single-handed—and gold Flesh-and-Blood battle constructs at that, able to attack and defend, to self-enhance and self-heal… This fight had even the distant onlookers Ranfeng and Zhonghua knitting their brows; they held it impossible to win from a position of weakness, and believed that even Ji Wuri—styled the one nearest to the divine—couldn’t defy the heavens against such odds!
Jinji, piloting the Strong Magnetic construct “Blood-Dripping Heaven-King,” resolved from the very start to give it his all.
He was no Wanmo.
Even if he wanted to put on a more arrogant show, he didn’t dare be too reckless at this critical juncture.
Just what sort of prodigious monster the Yue Yang across from him was, Jinji knew perfectly well; however much disdain he feigned on his face, there was pressure in his heart.
Wanmo, for his part, did just as he had against Qingmo: with a wave of his hand he released ten silver-grade Flesh-and-Blood “dwarfs” and ten silver constructs, and once the two had merged into one, released the gold-grade Flesh-and-Blood “man-eating ogre.”
Merging with it.
Displaying a steamrolling power!
Some of the students watching from outside the field couldn’t help letting out waves of jeers.
Two against one was already going too far; and now it wasn’t so simple as two against one, but twenty against one—it was truly outrageous!
“Grind him to dust for me!”
The instant the arbiter gave the command and the match began, Jinji had already charged in like lightning, and just as Yue Yang—following all match convention—was saluting his opponent, Jinji’s heavy fist came smashing down and blasted the silver wolf behind Yue Yang to pieces with a single blow.
The whole field erupted in an uproar.
Base, shameless, revolting, vile, dishonorable…
Countless curses spewed from the students’ mouths. You punk, not saluting was already disgraceful enough—what kind of noble are you? Being worse than a coarse mercenary, fine—but sneak-attacking while your opponent salutes? Most infuriating of all, the sneak attack was carried out brazenly right under the arbiter’s very nose, insolent and shameless to such a degree—it made one’s hair stand on end!
By match convention, whether friend or enemy, or even the killer of one’s own father, however much hatred one bore the opponent in one’s heart—
—before the match, one must first salute one’s opponent.
This, besides respecting the opponent, was also a respect for one’s own character!
Furthermore, while the arbiter had not yet withdrawn from the safety zone, students generally couldn’t launch an attack, to avoid wounding the arbiter by mistake. But Jinji did both these things, and did them with practiced ease, as though such deeds were a gifted instinct. Twenty against one, gold against silver, and sneak-attacking while the opponent salutes on top of it?
Even the most even-tempered person couldn’t stomach such trash!
Had it not been absolutely impossible to enter the field before the match ended, Chimu would have rushed straight in to beat Jinji into a pig’s head who wasn’t man inside the mirror or out, and teach him why the flowers bloom so red!
“Too far—this is going too far!” Mige, the Tall Tower War Wolf, smashed the battle-viewing device in his hand.
“Indeed, Jinji values victory far too much. Conduct this despicable, one can only scorn it; even in victory, it damages his reputation—it’s honestly not worth the gain!” Young Lord Yangquan wore a stern face, straining to keep his reason, and offered his analysis. But Ranfeng, standing not far from him, gave a cold sneer. “In war one does not scruple over means, caring only for victory or defeat. Had Jinji not done this, was he to sit there and wait for little Titan’s combo to descend upon him? Now, naturally, everyone condemns him. But if Jinji wins the final victory and takes the overall crown gloriously, what will people say of him then? So I’d say Jinji’s move wasn’t lacking in cleverness!”
Ranfeng had had no fondness for Jinji either, but in keeping with the enemy of one’s enemy being one’s friend—
Zhonghua was his lifelong great foe.
And little Titan was Zhonghua’s friend, the greatest obstacle to his own and Wanmo’s bid for the crown.
Therefore, however Jinji sneak-attacked, Ranfeng didn’t consider it a wrong move; on the contrary, such a move pleased Ranfeng most.
Zhonghua’s face was full of scorn. “You think just this could beat little Titan? What a colossal joke! Jinji’s nothing but a clownish little upstart—what’s there to fear of him? Were Wanmo not on the field, I guarantee that idiot Jinji couldn’t hold out even a quarter of an hour!”
On the Western Peak battlefield—
—Yue Yang didn’t spare the shattered silver wolf so much as a glance, as though the thing Jinji’s “Blood-Dripping Heaven-King” had smashed were an insignificant wooden puppet toy and not a silver wolf needed for the fight. Before all those watching eyes, Yue Yang sprang into the air; a silver wolf appeared in the sky, transforming into a valiant-looking silver construct.
“Boom!”
Wanmo had been quietly waiting all this while.
Waiting for just this moment—now the golden chance appeared; opportunity lost never returns. The man-eating ogre descended like a god of death, its shadow wholly blotting out the silver construct in midair as it transformed, preparing to merge and fight with Yue Yang.
In the instant the silver construct was caught, the man-eating ogre—with agility and skill unexpected of so titanic a body—launched a pursuing combo. Blows fell like rain: the silver construct was first struck in the lower back, then, in the instant of landing, seized by both legs.
As it bounced off the ground where it was slammed down, the man-eating ogre hauled the silver construct up and hurled it in a reverse one-hundred-eighty-degree throw.
Eighteen times in a chain.
After that, pivoting on its right foot, it spun at blazing speed nine full rotations.
Then let go, flinging the silver construct—beaten into scraps of broken bronze and rotten iron—far into the distance.
And it wasn’t over yet… As the construct flew through the air, the Flesh-and-Blood “man-eating ogre” opened its blood-basin of a maw and spat out an energy pillar, its power no less than Zhonghua’s Jet Beasts from before.
The energy pillar pursued and struck with perfect accuracy—boom—and the silver construct in the sky suffered an earth-shattering, world-shaking explosion.
Apart from some scattered fragments and parts—
—there was nothing left.
Jinji, piloting “Blood-Dripping Heaven-King,” ran to the point of explosion and searched a good while, only to find that apart from a few fragments, there wasn’t any human remains or flesh-and-blood limbs at all. Could it be that the little Titan in the great explosion hadn’t left behind so much as a scrap of bone, flesh, skin, or hair? True, the energy pillar’s power just now had been extraordinarily great, but there was no reason for not even a trace of debris to remain!
Wanmo was unlike Jinji; only Jinji’s level of intellect would think a single blast could finish off Yue Yang.
Having spat the energy pillar with the man-eating ogre, he immediately began searching.
Front, back, left, right.
Rotating a full three hundred sixty degrees, hunting for a trace of his opponent.
Alas, however he searched, however he rotated, he found no trace of Yue Yang… Only the students and instructors outside the field understood the truth.
Wanmo’s astonishing combo just now should by rights have struck awe into their very hearts and minds. But Yue Yang, for his part—who had been hovering all the while above Wanmo’s head, leisurely watching amid the man-eating ogre’s rain of blows—had, from a place of doing nothing at all, stolen away every bit of Wanmo’s thunder. To narrowly escape an enemy’s attack is nothing strange; even against Wanmo’s attack, no few people would have confidence in escaping. But to hover the whole time directly above the combo-throwing man-eating ogre’s head, and never once let it discover you—this was the truly terrifying sight!
“Looking for me?” When Yue Yang said this line so casually, Wanmo’s expression instantly changed.
“What?” Wanmo looked up, and only now discovered that what he’d been attacking just now was nothing but an empty-shelled silver construct—his opponent had never been inside it, but had been hovering quietly all this while in the blind spot above his own head, and hadn’t even seized the chance to strike.
This—what kind of attitude was this?
This wasn’t contempt—this was outright disdain!
The third silver wolf appeared, transformed in an instant, and merged into one with Yue Yang.
In the very moment the man-eating ogre meant to fall back and avoid the fight, the silver construct’s hand had already pressed onto the man-eating ogre’s great face—and the gold Flesh-and-Blood “man-eating ogre” that Qingmo’s repeated attacks couldn’t so much as budge, before all those watching eyes, in a way none could believe, was thrown down, crashing flat on its back, pressed by Yue Yang’s silver construct deep into the mud and sand, throwing up a dozen meters of dirt and dust!
“Damn—this is too awesome!” Chimu, who’d been holding it in a good long while, finally had cause for an erupting gush. He leapt about like a madman, waving his fists and howling wildly, “Kill—kill him! Just like that, kill them dead for me!”
“Are my eyes going bad?” Even Mige, the Tall Tower War Wolf, rubbed his eyes in disbelief; and Young Lord Yangquan, who fancied himself calm, was struck dumb with fright.
A silver construct flipping a gold construct—was this real?
Real, truly?
Under Wanmo’s piloting, the gold Flesh-and-Blood “man-eating ogre” reacted with extreme speed, completing its counter in a thousandth of a second. Its great arms clenched together in a frenzy; its enormous palms, thicker than a gorilla’s, came clapping down hard, like swatting a mosquito. Comparing the man-eating ogre’s frame to the silver construct’s, the silver construct did indeed look like a “little mosquito.”
Alas, this little mosquito once again trampled its gorilla-like opponent!
At the faint stir of Yue Yang’s thought, the silver construct slid out of the striking center of that pair of huge palms with peerless subtlety, and after the opponent’s counter came to nothing, its two hands seized the thumbs of the gorilla-like man-eating ogre’s two palms.
Whoosh!
Rumble, rumble…
The man-eating ogre’s titanic body was pulled by the silver construct out of the ground it was sunk deep into, and flung far, far away.
But Wanmo’s reaction speed truly was beyond that of ordinary students; even an elite student would fall far short of glimpsing his dust. In the instant the man-eating ogre crashed to the ground, it braced an arm against the earth and spun its body in a nearly three-hundred-degree great turn, driving both feet deep into the ground’s surface to hold against the force of the throw. At the same time, its feet borrowed the throw’s momentum and exploded outward, kicking up a column of mud and sand a hundred meters high—and within that sandstorm, the man-eating ogre flew back at a speed faster than lightning, its heavy fist smashing wildly at the silver construct still holding its throwing posture.
Bang!
The silver construct, under Yue Yang’s piloting, was nimble beyond all reason: first dodging the man-eating ogre’s heavy fist, then dodging the double attack of Jinji’s Strong Magnetic construct.
One kick sent the “Blood-Dripping Heaven-King”—trying to chain a combo—flying dozens of meters off; then, while dodging the man-eating ogre’s throat-cannon spray, it circled around behind it, reached out a second time, and by the back of its head pressed the man-eating ogre deep into a pit of mud and sand.
The earth quaked violently, the shockwave spread; a ring of concussion-storm that shattered even sound itself swept across the whole Western Peak.
Earth surged up like pillars.
The sandstorm was like the end of the world.
Seeing this scene, everyone stood dumb as wooden chickens.
Anyone knew one thing: if Yue Yang’s silver construct were struck by Wanmo’s or Jinji’s gold construct—even one punch—it couldn’t withstand it, and would burst into a sky full of fragments, ending in wretched defeat. Yet under his peerlessly prodigious piloting, however Wanmo and Jinji strained to the utmost, they couldn’t land a single blow—and were instead, humiliatingly, toyed with in the palm of Yue Yang’s hand as he piloted the silver construct.
That little Titan, skilled at the hundred-and-eight-strike combo, had a monstrous piloting skill—this was known to all.
But no one had ever imagined this brat would be monstrous to such a degree!
This wasn’t merely monstrous—it drove one to despair!
Never mind others.
Even Zhonghua and Ranfeng were so frightened they could scarcely swallow their own spittle… To take on two single-handed, silver against gold, without falling into the weaker position, was already a miracle of the mortal world—how could anyone, like little Titan, still carry out a teasing, cat-and-mouse total suppression?
Zhonghua felt that, were he in Wanmo’s place, he might as well just ram his head into a block of tofu and be done with it.
A lifelong humiliation!
Piloting a gold Flesh-and-Blood “man-eating ogre,” and being beaten till his flowers scattered and his petals fell by the silver-construct-piloting little Titan—with what face could he return to the Central Divine Hall?
Wanmo on the field knew full well that his dignity was utterly gone, but he had to turn this bout around, had to strike this damnable little Titan dead—otherwise, this humiliation could never be washed clean in a lifetime! Alas, however he attacked, he couldn’t touch his opponent. If his man-eating ogre was a charging, unstoppable mammoth of a giant elephant, then Yue Yang’s silver wolf was a free-flying, peerlessly nimble bird.
However great the elephant’s strength, it simply couldn’t do a thing to a winged, flying bird.
When it came to piloting skill, even a blind man could see it.
Wanmo was unquestionably a master.
But compared to little Titan—monstrous to the point of driving one mad, prodigious to the point of leaving one speechless—he truly wasn’t in the same class… If one had to force a reference point to reflect the comparison-value of the three, Jinji, Wanmo, and little Titan, then Jinji, piloting the Strong Magnetic construct, could only count as a slow, plodding tortoise—better than the snail of an ordinary student, but not by much.
Jinji was a tortoise, Wanmo a giant elephant, fast and powerful—but alas, he’d run into an eagle-like little Titan.
However strong the giant elephant, it couldn’t so much as graze a single feather of the flying eagle.
This was just how tragic the fight was… The side that was stronger, and two against one at that, was instead the one savaged—and savaged wretchedly, humiliated to the point of weeping without tears!
“No—impossible! I will not fail!” Jinji, his continuous attacks all coming up empty and himself kicked flying in return, howled in exasperated fury. “Little Titan, don’t you dare get pleased with yourself! If you think this piddling bit is all I’ve got, then you’re wrong—dead wrong! You forced me to this. I dare say that so long as I’m willing, I can easily savage you a thousand, a hundred times over. You—you can die!”
Having lost his reason and sunk into madness, Jinji resolved to use that power.
Whatever forbidden power it was, so long as it could win—
—he no longer cared!
So long as this detestable little Titan fell, fell before him, to be wildly stamped and savaged, then Jinji cared not what price he paid!
