Chapter 456: The Armored Vehicles Arrive

With Xu Yun hung up on a tree branch, Shen Cong quietly dropped down from the tree.

He wanted to hunt a chameleon for research—something that could flawlessly camouflage itself against sight, invisible to the naked eye, was absolutely different in essence from a pre-apocalypse chameleon.

A pre-apocalypse chameleon merely adjusted the nanocrystals in its skin to alter the refraction of light and thereby change color. That change was slight, so the color shift was never total; nor was a chameleon's color-changing necessarily even for camouflage—it was also a form of adaptation, an expression of mood, a means of communication.

The chameleon mutant of the present, however, could through some strange method disguise itself utterly, as though it were simply air.

No matter what direction Shen Cong looked from, he could hardly spot them—like transparent existences.

But transparent was absolutely impossible.

Because the chameleon that had earlier eaten Xu Yun's severed limbs—once it slipped back into hiding, the severed limbs could no longer be seen either. If it were truly transparent, the limbs couldn't have turned transparent too.

This was a kind of interference-and-refraction of light.

The human eye could see an object because the eyeball received the object's reflected light. Scientists had long wanted to develop a see-through device, and right up to 2022 had made no headway at all—perfect light-filtering was extraordinarily difficult. But the chameleon mutant of the present had nearly achieved perfect filtering of the light source.

The secret within, Shen Cong believed, was once again the effect of an Activity wave.

The more evolved individuals he came into contact with, the more Activity waves he discovered—all of them things he needed. Only by accumulating enough knowledge could he truly decode Activity, decode evolution.

"How did you see the chameleons?" Xu Yun, with only one leg left, had gone from the lofty Bug Heavenly King to a limbless swine, nothing but venom in his eyes. "What in the world is that armor of yours? You Huang bastard—I've lost, but I won't accept it. Tell me!"

His questioning drew not the slightest response from Shen Cong.

He…
