"Have I offended him?"
Xu Ye asked it once Zheng Bin had gone, knowing perfectly well what the answer was.
The smile went off Yu Jiaying's face too. She shook her head. "Don't worry about him."
Xu Ye checked the time and said to the two of them, "It's getting late. Much later and I won't be able to get into the dorm tonight."
"The dorm?" Yu Jiaying was startled. "You're still at school?"
"Mm. Second year now."
"Second year — so you're only… twenty this year?"
"That's right."
Yu Jiaying still did not quite believe it. She glanced at Zhao Ming, and only when Zhao Ming nodded did she start clicking her tongue.
When Zheng Bin had followed her over earlier, meaning to sit down next to her, she had pulled out the chair and indicated that Xu Ye should take it instead — and she had been afraid he would not understand what she meant. It had not occurred to her that he would go along with it that readily.
And then there was the business about the start-up. If Xu Ye had not put a word in ahead of time, she would not have had a reason to turn Zheng Bin down.
Looking at it now, this one had a high emotional intelligence.
"I'll head off now. Zhao Ming, we'll set something up next time."
"All right."
"Hold on!"
Yu Jiaying smiled. "That investment business we were talking about. When are you planning to go over it with me in detail?"
Xu Ye could not tell anymore whether Yu Jiaying was joking or serious. He got his phone out. "Want to add each other on WeChat first?"
"Sure." Yu Jiaying agreed to it readily.
Once the two of them had added each other, Xu Ye left the Jinjiang and drove back toward school.
Zhao Ming said, "Jiaying-jie. That start-up business is a joke, isn't it?"
"Who told you I was joking?"
