Tong Yuanyuan had graduated from Hubei Institute of Fine Arts, one of the eight fine arts academies.

The school wasn't especially well known, but her grades there had been very good, and around November, with two large job fairs held on campus, the people around her had found work one after another.

The positions fell into two broad categories.

One was going into education, as an art teacher or an instructor at one of the private arts academies.

The other was going to an advertising agency as a graphic artist or a designer.

Only a very small number of people had any chance of getting into film and entertainment, or into the more prestigious sort of cultural and arts organization, and those were the ones with real family connections behind them.

Tong Yuanyuan had no interest in teaching. She had interviewed at several advertising agencies, but the internship pay they offered was extremely low, and you could hear between the lines that the overtime never stopped, so even after getting offers from two of them she had turned both down.

It wasn't that she was reaching above herself. One company was simply too far away, and the other was offering internship pay that was genuinely too low.

With the New Year almost on top of her and her classmates all placed, Tong Yuanyuan had begun to worry. Once she was home she spent a lot of time going through job listings online, and in the end she found a clothing company in Jiangzhou itself that was at least loosely in her field.

Early on the third.

Tong Yuanyuan ate something in a hurry, left the house and took a ride-hailing car all the way out to Jiangzhou's technology industrial park.

She took the elevator up to the seventh floor of office building A.
