Ever since he and Zhang Ruowei made it official, Zhao Ming had zero interest in doing any work.
The second he had a free minute he was on WeChat talking to her, sunk so deep in the happiness of it he couldn't drag himself back out.
Wednesday morning, with nothing to do at the office, Zhao Ming messaged Xu Ye first. "Busy?"
"Not this morning."
"So now that Zhang Ruowei and I are official — if I asked her over to my place, that shouldn't be a problem, right?"
Xu Ye wrote back, "If you just come out and say it, your intentions are way too obvious. You have to give her a reason."
"A reason? What reason?"
"Here's an example. Play sick at home, say you've come down with a cold, and ask Zhang Ruowei to bring you some cold medicine. That way she thinks: I'm going to his place to bring him medicine. Nine times out of ten a girl says yes to that."
Xu Ye went on. "But if you ask her straight out whether she wants to come over and hang out at your place, then what she thinks is: if I say yes, that makes me the kind of girl who's easy. Which makes it easy for her to say no. You know what I mean?"
Zhao Ming typed fast. "Holy shit. You really are a pro."
Xu Ye laughed. "Haha. Learn something?"
"Learned it, learned it."
"Oh right — I've actually got something I need your help with too."
"Go ahead."
"I've got a guest coming to the company this afternoon and I promised to send somebody to pick him up at the airport. My car's too ordinary. It doesn't cut it. How about you get me a car with some class to it?"
"Ha, that's it? Give me one more day and I could get you a Rolls-Royce."
"It doesn't need to be that good. Something decent will do."
"Sit tight. I'll make a call right now and have somebody send over a couple of A6s."
