It was already five thirty in the evening when Chen Hansong drove Jiang Meilin and Yang Lin back.
Seeing her own car parked outside, Jiang Meilin knew Xu Ye hadn't left yet. She dug the keys out of her bag, opened the courtyard gate and carried her bags and parcels up to the living room door.
She pushed it open and saw Xu Ye and Chen Qingqing on the sofa at a glance. She turned and made a shushing gesture at Chen Hansong and Yang Lin, and only then changed her shoes and went in.
Yang Lin followed her in, and her eyes went to the two of them on the sofa as well.
Chen Hansong came in last, and at the sight of Xu Ye asleep in his precious daughter's lap his blood pressure went up.
It's a sin!!!
Jiang Meilin set the shopping down on the carpet, picked up the remote from the table and turned the television off, then took a bag of groceries that needed refrigerating through into the kitchen.
At which point Chen Hansong raised his voice on purpose. "Is there anything still in the car that hasn't come in?"
Jiang Meilin was about to speak when Chen Qingqing, on the sofa, woke first. She opened her eyes, found her father and Auntie Yang Lin both looking at her, gave a start, and hurriedly patted Xu Ye's face until she had forced him awake.
Chen Hansong glared hard at Xu Ye, his eyes all but throwing off sparks.
Beside him, Yang Lin saw the expression on Chen Hansong's face and enjoyed it privately. Bank President Chen, oh, Bank President Chen. This is all it takes, is it? Lucky for you that you didn't see this afternoon's camera footage, or else… ha.
Xu Ye rubbed his eyes and sat up off the sofa. With a hide as thick as his he was naturally not going to be embarrassed the way Chen Qingqing was. He rubbed his stomach instead and called through to his mother-in-law in the kitchen, "Auntie, I'm staying for dinner tonight."
"Hungry?" Jiang Meilin…
