The four-legged dragon kept its head in the crisis. With a crunch it bit the super mud dragon in its mouth clean in two, and its body didn't give an inch. It used the dragon saddle strapped across its head — the one the Mechanical Vine's metal seeds had taken root in and turned into fortified plant armor — to meet the ultimate mud dragon's jin-core clitellum head-on.

The dragon saddle buckled and flattened with tremendous speed, but on the strength of that hard saddle the four-legged dragon held against the ultimate mud dragon's earth-shaking blow, and the ultimate mud dragon came away with nothing. The four-legged dragon's fighting skill was superb; it gave the ultimate mud dragon no chance whatsoever to burrow back down. Its jin-core claws seized the ultimate mud dragon at once.

The colors of the sharpening reaction burned bright, opening gash after gash across the ultimate mud dragon's body.

Blood sprayed, glittering with metallic sheen.

This ultimate mud dragon's degree of evolution was far past the super mud dragons', and its presence could overpower the four-legged dragon's. But its combat power fell a long way short. It had no sharp claws and no sharp mouth, only that single-shot attack of the jin-core clitellum. So the moment the four-legged dragon slipped the hammer blow, it could open up an effective counterattack.

The ultimate mud dragon couldn't beat the four-legged dragon.

But it had underlings — or descendants. While it was held fast in the four-legged dragon's grip, four or five super mud dragons came boring up out of the ground all around, ringing the four-legged dragon in and attacking like mad.

Two fists are no match for four hands.

The situation turned on its head. In an instant the four-legged dragon went from invincible in single combat to being mobbed, and all it could do was twist and dodge and give ground before the mud dragons' frenzied attacks.
