Chapter 115: Dragon Rend, Dragon Shadow, Sevenfold Rend

Holy Dragon’s Fang: Heaven-Severing item. Requirements: possession of a Holy Light Dragon Soul. Formed from a tooth of the ancient Dragon God of Holy Light after his death, containing within it a mighty power of light. Its power has lain dormant across the long ages, however, and it can manifest no bonus attributes whatsoever.

Attributes: None.

Skill — Blessing of Holy Light: Releases the light dragon-power within the Holy Dragon’s Fang to bolster the user, instantly restoring HP and MP to full. Usable three times per day.

Demon Dragon’s Fang: Heaven-Severing item. Requirements: possession of a Dark Dragon Soul. Formed from a tooth of the ancient Dragon God of Darkness after his death, containing within it a mighty power of darkness. Its power has lain dormant across the long ages, however, and it can manifest no bonus attributes whatsoever.

Attributes: None.

Skill — Curse of the Dark Demon: Releases the dark magic within the Demon Dragon’s Fang into an attack. For 30 minutes, the struck target’s Luck is reduced by 10; if the target’s Luck exceeds ten points, it is forcibly reduced to 0. Additionally, a 70% chance to inflict 3–5 seconds of Blindness (unable to see) and Confusion (body outside the target’s own control). Usable three times per day.

Heaven-Severing items. These were, in fact, two Heaven-Severing items belonging to the dragon race. And yet, for all their Heaven-Severing rating, they carried no attributes at all — the only thing each possessed was a single bonus skill. Ye Tianxie raised his head and gave Long Moya a questioning look.

“These two supreme treasures of my race were in my keeping so that they might be given to a dragon whose light or dark dragon-power was brought forth by the stimulation of the Dragon God’s power,” Long Moya said. “Before today I never imagined they could belong to the same person. Do not doubt them — they are stronger than you imagine. It is only that dragons with attributed power appear so terribly rarely; I have waited here several thousand years and never once seen one. And as too much time has passed, their power has slowly gone dormant across the ages. Waking that power is a simple matter, though…”

“How?” Ye Tianxie asked.

“The Water of Life… It is said that far, far to the north of here there stands a mountain called Holy Heaven Mountain, and hidden upon it is a Spring of Life. Find the Spring of Life, draw the Water of Life from it, and sprinkle two drops upon these — and their sleeping power will fully awaken. Consider it a trial for you, or a test.” Long Moya said it unhurriedly.

“The Water of Life…”

Those words made Ye Tianxie think at once of the novice village where he’d started… and that strange old man called Yuan Que. He had Water of Life in his possession. And if Ye Tianxie remembered rightly, the description of the Water of Life in Bro Que’s hands had said something about him having risked his life to obtain it from the Spring of Life on Holy Heaven Mountain.

Holy Heaven Mountain. The Spring of Life. He committed both names firmly to memory. And if even Yuan Que, who owned a Demon Serpent, had to “risk his life” to get the Water of Life, then the monsters and guardian beasts there had to be terrifyingly strong… He wondered when he’d ever have the ability to go there.

With the Holy Dragon’s Fang and the Demon Dragon’s Fang equipped, Ye Tianxie clenched his hands in excitement. Not only was the dexterity of his fingers entirely unimpeded — more remarkably, the gauntlets, which had felt heavy in his palms a moment ago, became almost weightless once worn, light as nothing, without the slightest effect on his movement.

Sometimes looking cool mattered more than good stats.

He crossed his hands, and the black Demon Dragon’s Fang knocked against the holy white Holy Dragon’s Fang with a few dull clacks. He looked up and voiced the question on his mind. “Why don’t I have any attack skills?”

“Our race has no fixed attack skills. With our strength, a fist thrown carelessly is worth more than all the flashy techniques of common folk. Still, having varied and more powerful means of attack matters too… Our skills are generally comprehended by ourselves, through combat… Very well. Since that’s how it is, I shall help you once more.”

Long Moya stepped forward until he stood directly before Ye Tianxie, then held out his palm flat, the hollow of it facing Ye Tianxie’s body. “I will impart the skills I have comprehended over these years to you. How many you can grasp will depend on your own comprehension!”

“Very well,” Ye Tianxie answered, his face all seriousness — while inside he nearly laughed himself into a stitch… Skills imparted, skills for free… The good fortune was arriving a little too fast, a little too suddenly.

Long Moya nodded slightly, his expression setting. A faint glow appeared over his body and gathered swiftly into his outstretched palm, then leapt free in an instant and settled over Ye Tianxie.

A warm current of power flowed through him. Ye Tianxie closed his eyes, silently accepting, in the stillness, something not his own gradually becoming his.

“Ding… You have comprehended the skills ‘Dragon Rend Strike’ and ‘Dragon Shadow Strike,’ and comprehended the ultimate technique ‘Dragon Tornado Sevenfold Rend.'”

Dragon Rend Strike: Gathers dragon-power into both hands, striking the enemy before you with fists carrying rending dragon-power, or with a wielded weapon. Deals damage equal to 200% of a normal attack to a single enemy, with a 30% chance to knock the target back, a 5% chance to knock the target down, and a 5% chance to stun the target for 2–4 seconds. Costs 15 MP. No cooldown. May be performed with the fists or with any weapon. When performed with a slashing weapon, “Dragon Rend Strike” becomes “Dragon Rend Slash”; when thrusting with a dagger-type weapon, it becomes “Dragon Rend Thrust”; when attacking at range with a bow, it becomes “Dragon Rend Arrow.”

Dragon Shadow Strike: Condenses dragon-power throughout the body and launches a shadow-swift dash, dealing a savage blow to all enemies in a straight line ahead. Dash distance 5 meters; dash duration 0.2 to 0.5 seconds. 30% chance to knock the target back, 10% chance to knock the target to the ground. Deals damage equal to 120% of a normal attack. Costs 25 MP. Cooldown 10 seconds. May be performed with the fists or with any weapon. When performed with a slashing weapon, “Dragon Shadow Strike” becomes “Dragon Shadow Slash”; when thrusting with a dagger-type weapon, “Dragon Shadow Thrust”; when attacking at range with a bow, it becomes “Dragon Shadow Arrow,” in which the user and the arrow dash forward as one.

Dragon Tornado Sevenfold Rend: Spins the body, delivering seven instantaneous heavy blows to a single target with savage dragon-power, each blow dealing damage equal to a normal attack. The wind of force stirred up has a high chance of driving back enemies who approach. After use, the user is stunned for 1 to 2 seconds. Costs 120 MP. Cooldown 1 minute.

The details of the three skills surfaced in Ye Tianxie’s mind one after another, and their effects made him inwardly click his tongue. Dragon Rend Strike, with no cooldown, would inevitably become his primary attack skill — double damage effectively doubled his attack power outright. Dragon Shadow Strike not only gave him a ranged attack within five meters, it could also be used as a near-teleport for escape, repositioning, and pinning an enemy down.

And that last, ultimate technique made his heart lurch. Sevenfold Rend — a full 700% of his attack damage! Attack power of that magnitude was something even a second- or third-tier class change in another profession could hardly reach! With this skill on him, he believed there was scarcely a player in the whole of the Huaxia server he couldn’t one-shot.

He raised his head, looked at Long Moya, and asked, with obvious excitement, the question he couldn’t help asking. “Powerful stats, powerful skills — what I want to say is, the power my class grants me now vastly outstrips everyone else who came from the same world as me. Won’t I be badly breaking the balance between us?”

With the class change to Rebel-Boned Evil Dragon, his attributes had multiplied. Now he’d received three skills, each stronger than the last, and his overall power had exploded again… He had already left every other player of the same level far behind. In a game world that pursued fairness and justice, even the exceedingly rare hidden classes were only slightly stronger than ordinary ones. But the sheer power of his own exclusive Rebel-Boned Evil Dragon had torn that balance apart completely, launching him a huge stride forward and leaving every other player in the dust.

“Balance?” Long Moya murmured the word — then let out a disdainful laugh. “We dragons are born kings. Humans may be our friends, but with their bodies, their strength, their bearing — what standing do they have to speak of balance with us? If our abilities were to be held level with those of ordinary humans, we would hardly deserve the name of dragon!”

His words instantly swept away the small knot of unease in Ye Tianxie’s heart, and he nodded in emphatic agreement. His class name pointed to the fact that what he possessed was the power of an Evil Dragon — and as the mightiest and most noble of races, why should he trouble himself over the balance of power among humans? Strength like this, plus innate abilities like these… invincible among players. That feeling seemed rather nice, actually.

Though… even if he could be confident he wouldn’t lose to any player, he also knew that as he was now, he still couldn’t survive a single exchange with that blue wolf, or with the mysterious blue-haired man.

“The skills I just imparted to you — how many did you comprehend?” Long Moya asked.

“Mm. Three.”

Three?” A deep astonishment entered Long Moya’s eyes.

“Dragon Rend Strike, Dragon Shadow Strike, Dragon Tornado Sevenfold Rend. Was there another one?” Ye Tianxie’s face was a picture of inquiry.

Long Moya was speechless for a long moment, looking at Ye Tianxie the way one might look at a monster… Bizarre dragon-power, a freakish constitution, and now a capacity for comprehension this unbelievable… He had imparted three skills in all, and those three were the fruit of a thousand years of his own comprehension. In passing them on, he would have counted it a rare thing indeed if the young man grasped even one… And instead, in that brief span of time, he had comprehended all three.

Long Moya was beginning to understand what humans meant by the word “freak.”

“Right — old master, there’s something I need to ask you… Do you know anything about a skill called Dragon Soul Detonation?” Ye Tianxie asked seriously. Detonate the dragon soul. Destroy everything. Those eight characters, and nothing more, carried a heavy fog about them that had been coiling in his mind and refusing to lift.
