Out of the Chaoshan region, driving north along the coast, he soon reached the Zhangzhou and Xiamen area. Farther north was Quanzhou, then Putian, and finally Fuzhou. Stopping in Fuzhou's Mawei District and looking at the bay of the lower Min River, now a vast expanse of water, Shen Cong couldn't help shaking his head.

No great rift had opened along the southeast coastal seismic belt, but all the way here, what met his eyes was either land overturned into open sea or towering volcanoes and endless raised fire rivers.

He saw a huge whale of some unknown kind spouting water, two hundred meters long, but it too was only nuclear-grade, not particle-grade. He also hunted down a huge clam that had been just short of entering particle-grade.

"The southeast coastal seismic belt runs roughly from the Chaoshan region to the Fuzhou region, northeast to southwest along the coastline, with a great many volcanoes and raised fire rivers along it. Too bad the only particle-grade evolved beast was that common octopus beast, and a nasty one at that. It wouldn't submit to me, so I killed it."

"Luckily the common octopus beast gave me a slim chance at raising my Talent, so it wasn't wasted effort."

"Fuzhou was the seat of the Eastern Theater Command's army headquarters, but there's no trace of people here. I can't tell whether everyone here died in the disaster or moved somewhere else. The great earthquake turned the ground completely upside down and didn't leave a single clue behind."

Putting aside questions that had no answer, Shen Cong drove the Vajra on, towing the Train Convoy, and in the last glow of the setting sun continued north along the…
