Ning Chen looked at her curiously. "Something left to achieve?"

Yue Congyun bowed. "This officer has said it before: women in the Great Xuan have far too little standing. They're appendages to you men, goods for you to trade however you like.

When I first followed my lord prince, I said I would raise the standing of the Great Xuan's women.

That's why I want to follow my lord prince, fight on every front and bring peace to the four seas. I want to become the first woman general everyone in the Great Xuan looks up to, and an example for all its women.

My lord prince once said, 'A woman's headdress gives no ground to a man's beard. Who says a woman is not the equal of a man?'... Surely you can understand why this officer is doing this?"

Ning Chen gave a slight nod. It was true. Women in the Great Xuan were held far too cheap. A concubine, for instance, could be handed off to anyone on a whim. She was nothing more than goods.

It was no surprise Yue Congyun had set herself that goal. She'd said as much before.

"Aren't you afraid that by the time you've made your name, Old Feng will have run off with someone else?"

Yue Congyun sighed. "If I keep him, I'm lucky. If I lose him, that's my fate... If he falls for someone else, then we were fated to meet and not fated to stay, and I'll wish him well.

Besides, I've asked my lord prince to keep an eye on him for this officer, haven't I?"

Ning Chen: "..."

She knew how to hold on and how to let go. No wonder she was so ruthless and decisive on the battlefield... But you're using me as a dog leash, huh? With the way Old Feng is, how is this prince supposed to keep him in line? Ning Chen griped to himself.

He said aloud, "Fine. This prince will do everything possible to keep an eye on him."

"Thank you, my lord prince!"

Ning Chen grunted, turned back…
