What on earth is he talking about? That the world's one step from collapse? So the Fed's going to use its power to print the dollar...?
A Yu-ra had practically been taking business lessons since she was old enough to understand words, and her head was still spinning.
Class was over.
The professor had sighed as he announced the end of the first session.
Then he'd taken Jang Tae-san off with him.
The business freshmen traded looks and questions.
Few of them had caught the point.
Jang Tae-san had made it simple, but unless you ran a company, traded currencies for a living or were an upperclassman in economics, it was hard to follow.
The one thing they had caught: the Fed was going to pour out money to keep Wall Street from going under.
"Is that even possible? Like the professor said—would the Fed ever really do that?"
"Guess he reads a lot of comics. Japanese manga are full of that kind of economics jargon."
"Right. Like he's some economist from the future~"
"Stuck-up law student."
"Tell me about it~."
The students who hated the law department set the tone.
A Yu-ra didn't join in.
She was writing up the whole exchange in her notes.
If what Jang Tae-san said is true, this is... huge money.
Stocks were in free fall.
Oyang Foods was only a midsize company, selling mostly at home, but it had a lot riding on this.
Oyang Feed imported every bit of its raw materials, corn and the like.
The company was in emergency mode.
It had bought six months' supply in futures at high prices and, she'd heard, taken a big loss.
But if things went the way Jang Tae-san said, the tables would turn.
If the American crisis gets worse, the won loses even more value. Not as bad as the IMF, but even at 1,500 won to the dollar...
Numbers flew past, changing by the second.
A Yu-ra's notebook filled up with complicated formulas.
Commodities are crashing, but once the dollars start pouring out... they'll bounce back soon. If only I knew…
