Yueyang was a famous city of culture. Shen Cong had studied Fan Zhongyan's Memorial to Yueyang Tower in school: Be the first to worry over the world's troubles, and the last to share in its joys.
It embraced Dongting Lake and looked out over the waters of the Yangtze.
Its location was excellent.
Yueyang hadn't turned into a marsh the way Wuhan had, and here the river still surged on without rest. There weren't many tall trees, only a scattered few dotting a grassland that stretched as far as the eye could see.
"Strange grass. The leaves have turned to metal, and even the wind can't move them. It looks like aloe, but on a closer look it's probably some kind of mutant orchid."
Aloe leaves are fat and thick, but the grass here had long, strap-like leaves, and you could just make out the orchid it had once been.
Nearly all of Yueyang had been taken over by these mutant orchids.
Stretch after stretch of them.
Their Talent ranged anywhere from 0.5H to 1.5H. In some places the mutant orchids grew three or four meters tall; in others, only one or two.
Now and then an evolved beast wandered through the orchids.
At the sight of the Four-Armed Vajra, the timid ones ran and the bold ones stopped to stare. The Four-Armed Vajra rolled on through. Its Third Eye Radar swept a dozen-odd kilometers around for any trace of human survivors, while Shen Cong felt out how the Activity was spread across the area.
"The Activity concentration here is decent, much higher than in a barren zone. Probably an abundant zone. I came from the north, and the north is a barren zone. If this is an abundant zone, the oasis should be farther south. Farther south is Changsha. Could the oasis be in Changsha?"
At once.
The Four-Armed Vajra sped up and drove south.
Past Yueyang County and into Xiangyin County, the Activity concentration climbed higher still. Shen Cong could all but conclude that the Changsha area was an oasis, and a large one.
What's more, in Xiangyin…
