"Don’t call me a coward~♪ Life’s one big swing~♬. Live straight~♫."

A song by Can Lid, a group I'd listened to as a kid, came bouncing out of the radio.

Swish-thwick, swish-thwick.

The wipers were going fast.

The spring rain that had come on suddenly toward evening was getting heavier.

I'd been at the office, happily watching the Oh family go down in flames.

Serves them right, and then some.

The lunatic had filmed his below-the-belt escapades in high definition.

It was back when he had money and passion to burn and didn't know the world could bite.

He'd filmed it all so well that there was no denying the face or the voice.

He'd gotten wasted and partied like an animal with college girls and his buddies.

And he'd been proud of it...

The women's faces were all pixelated.

As for the men—Oh Ju-hyeok's face in particular got some special Photoshop work before it went up.

His not-very-big thing was made even smaller.

I'd handed it to Robert and asked him to post it on a site Korean-Americans used a lot.

The video spread like wildfire.

The Hanguk Freedom Party, which had been yelling to crush the previous government, went into total meltdown.

The papers and the broadcasters were having a field day.

Nothing like it had happened in my last life.

Because of the video, a few close races looked like they'd go to the opposition.

In Jangju especially, the opposition's win was a lock.

I heard furious Jangju citizens were throwing rocks and raising hell.

Oh Ju-hyeok had naturally slipped away and vanished.

The election was only days off, and a storm of bad news had hit the Oh family.

And I'd planted a seed.

The man elected Jangju's assemblyman in 2016 is a real gem.

In the future, he's the one who digs up and exposes the connection between President Jo Geun-hye and Ju Sun-ja.

For now, he'd won by picking up the pieces, but my part in it wouldn't go away. (TL Note: The Korean is 어부지리, "the fisherman's gain"—from the fable of a heron…
