The Corridor of Time.
Even Xue Wuxia, who had opened it, had never imagined it would look like this.
Volcano, Storm Cloud, Thunder, Wilds and the other visitors from the Sky Realm had all assumed it would be a long corridor something like the ancient passage, with the battle honors and glories of the Sky Tower’s many past powers recorded along it. Who could have guessed? Once they went in and looked, they found it was nothing like what they had imagined.
It was a void-like existence. There was no ground, no sky, no walls, nothing of the kind.
There was not even an edge to it.
No one knew how long this “Corridor of Time” was.
Still less did anyone know how long it had existed. Perhaps time meant nothing to it; perhaps it was, in itself, an eternal existence.
An ancient law filled the entire field of the Corridor of Time.
It did not suppress the free will of those who set foot in it, and it did not shackle the strength of those who entered. Quite the opposite: it had the effect of drawing things out. Once inside, everyone — including the several Heavenly Realm visitors who had kept their forms and their strength hidden all along — found their forms and strength revealed in spite of themselves. Their looks, their appearance, their deeply hidden true bodies, even their talents all put themselves on display before everyone.
The sapphire-blue Vast Sea’s true body was a Divine Elephant.
He changed back into human form at once, but in the instant they entered, everyone saw it clearly: the true body of their leader, who had set foot in the Sky Tower ten thousand years ago, was a “Divine Elephant.”
And not only that — Vast Sea’s strength was the greatest of them all. A golden pillar of light more than sixty meters tall burst out of the top of his head and shot straight up into the sky, showing plainly how strong he was and what realm he stood in.
Volcano and Storm Cloud had both believed their strength was getting close to their leader Vast Sea’s. Unfortunately, the truth was that they had not even reached half of his. Vast Sea had hidden his strength very deeply, and if they had not entered the Corridor of Time, none of them would ever have known his true strength and realm. As for why Vast Sea had hidden it, unwilling to show it even in front of his companions, perhaps he had his own special reasons… Volcano and Storm Cloud had no time to care about that or dig into it right now. What they really wanted to see was just how strong that little girl “Wuxia” was, and what realm she stood in — the one who had killed a divine-realm assassin with a single move.
The golden pillar of light above her head, which marked her realm, was only thirty meters tall.
It was a little short even of Volcano’s thirty-two meters and Storm Cloud’s thirty-three.
The display took all of them completely by surprise, and what followed was bewilderment, shock and disbelief.
“Wuxia” had killed in one move a divine-realm assassin who had been trailing them all without being noticed. She could not possibly be at the same level as Volcano and Storm Cloud — and yet the height of her golden pillar fell short of theirs.
What was going on?
If they had not seen it with their own eyes — watched her, with everyone looking on, kill that divine-realm assassin in a single move — they would all have been fooled by her.
Since the truth was not what the pillar showed, didn’t that mean that even under the Corridor of Time’s law of revelation, she still had the ability to hide her own true strength and level? That was what truly shocked them and left them unable to believe it… This was the Corridor of Time, created by ancient law. How could she possibly be the exception? Could this little girl “Wuxia” already have reached the legendary Sacred Sovereign, and possess a self-will that was unique and eternal?
“In this Corridor of Time, each step stands for a hundred years.” Xue Wuxia’s little face was lovely as she smiled faintly. She neither confirmed nor denied what the others suspected, which only made her seem all the more mysterious and unfathomable.
“One step equals a hundred years?” Only then did Volcano notice that, in all the time they had been inside, not one of them had taken a single step.
It was not that they did not want to. It was that they could not.
In this place, with no heaven and earth, no space, not even time, even divine-tier powers like them could not move as they pleased. No one could walk in any direction, not even a single step.
Xue Wuxia smiled again and pointed casually in one direction ahead. “Perhaps you’ve already noticed there’s a star up ahead. That’s where the hundred-year step we’re about to take ends. There, it should show the Sky Tower’s powers of the past hundred years — though of course only the divine tier has the right to be shown here.”
With Xue Wuxia’s divine mind guiding them, they finally managed to take one step forward.
That one step stood for a hundred years.
Everyone’s mind went hazy. Suddenly they felt the scene before them change, and their bodies were carried, whether they would or no, into an entirely new void.
Only now did Volcano and the others truly understand. No wonder it needed a Hall of Guidance founded by the ancient Goddess of Wisdom, and no wonder it needed the guidance of an inheritor. Without this little girl “Wuxia,” what good would it have done to open the core of the Ruins of the Gods, or even to get into this Corridor of Time? Who could have found which way was forward in an endless void? Who could have searched for treasure in a Corridor of Time where every step was a hundred years? Set against the majesty of ancient law, their earlier treasure-hunting plans, so full of themselves, were absurd and laughable… The Ruins of the Gods really was a place where you could throw the gates wide open, let anyone in, and nobody would gain the slightest thing from it. That was why this little girl “Wuxia” was not worried at all, and why she could open the Gate of Wisdom so casually without fearing that Dongfang, Tianyu and the rest were watching.
The starlight they had seen from afar had now become a nebula, dazzling, radiant and splendid beyond compare.
One golden star after another, too lofty to reach and too bright to look up at, blazed before them.
As everyone reached out with their divine minds to probe it, that dazzling, glittering nebula suddenly spread and expanded a thousand-million-billionfold, unfolding across the entire space in an instant and closing over everyone’s heads.
Nearest to Volcano and Storm Cloud were two special golden stars. They were very small, and at first glance they seemed lost among countless others and nothing out of the ordinary. And yet no one could ignore them, because at this very moment they were growing at an astonishing speed.
Their potential was so vast it left everyone clicking their tongues in amazement.
Out of curiosity, Volcano and the others probed them carefully with their divine minds, and were amazed to find that at the heart of each of these two golden stars, wrapped in divine light, was a very young little girl. One was surrounded by countless war beasts — winged horses, butterflies, spirit-mirror reflections and more — all circling her and shining. She was a little older, but certainly no older than “Wuxia” here, and she looked rather like “Wuxia’s” little sister.
The other was even smaller, about the age of a human girl of fourteen or fifteen, her body not yet grown into itself.
Looking at that childish little face, full of innocence, no one could possibly have imagined that this too was a divine-tier power — and a divine-tier power who was growing at high speed, at that!
The childish little girl with two Titan treants standing guard behind her, one on each side, was, according to their intelligence, ninety-nine percent certain to be Yue Titan’s little sister, Yue Bing. But Volcano and the others could have gone mad and still never imagined it: this little girl, whom the Heavenly Realm’s warriors had until now all but ignored, was a divine tier too, and growing at high speed… The golden pillar above Yue Bing’s head, which marked her divine tier, was not even ten meters tall, but at the moment it was climbing at a crazy speed — up by almost a millimeter every ten seconds.
Volcano and Storm Cloud had tears streaming down their faces. They could have cried themselves to death!
You have to understand: when the golden pillars above their heads went up by a single millimeter, it took not ten seconds but ten years — even a hundred years!
How could anyone’s go up by the second? And above this little Yue Bing’s head there was also a phantom pillar, which they guessed stood for her potential, and it was at least three hundred meters tall — so tall it made you want to spit blood, so tall it made you want to bash your head against a wall and die right here.
Volcano looked above his own head and found that the faint phantom there was not even five meters.
Storm Cloud was worse off: only three.
The best of them was Wilds. The golden phantom above her head was more than forty meters tall. Though her actual realm right now was a golden pillar of only about twenty-five meters, in the future she would surpass them all without question and leap to the head of the group — higher even than their leader Vast Sea’s sixty.
The second with great potential was the youngest in their party, “Gleam,” whom everyone usually picked on. But he too had a phantom of potential in the twenties.
His current realm was a long way behind Volcano’s and Storm Cloud’s — his golden pillar was only twenty meters tall, the weakest of all his companions. But if he cultivated all the way to the end, barring accidents, he would have no trouble passing Volcano and Storm Cloud.
Besides them, Thunder, Silver Veil, Meadow and their other companions all had more or less potential of varying degrees, and every one of them was better off than Volcano and Storm Cloud. The result left the two of them as sour as if a whole jar of vinegar had been knocked over inside them.
Storm Cloud, who currently ranked among the top three in strength, suffered most of all. Going by final potential, he would be overtaken by every single one of them and end up dead last.
“Even with potential, there’s no guarantee you’ll ever cultivate it all the way out,” their leader Vast Sea said by way of comfort. His own potential had already been dug out to its very top, with no possibility of going any further.
“I can take a little knock like this!” Storm Cloud looked fine on the surface, but his smile was uglier than crying.
“Good thing I’m not last.” Volcano secretly wiped the cold sweat from his temple. Standing before a law of revelation that allowed no secrets whatsoever, the mental strain was just too much. Not being strong enough, not standing in a high enough realm — that was one thing. But this phantom of potential, which could show you how far you would ever be able to cultivate in the future — that was the real pressure. The real pear-ssure!
Volcano and the others then turned their divine minds toward the other little girl, whose name they did not know, but who seemed a bit like “Wuxia’s” little sister, to see what her potential was like.
One look, and once again they very nearly spat blood.
This little girl, surrounded by so many beautiful war beasts — elf fairies, winged horses, phantom butterflies, spirit mirrors and more — seemed to have a potential pillar just a hair lower than Yue Titan’s sister Yue Bing’s. But she too was a terrifying existence with a potential of more than three hundred meters.
That, too, was a height that drove anyone to despair!
The heavy blow was almost more than Volcano and the other visitors from the Sky Realm could accept. Could it be that the Sky Tower’s local specialty was freak geniuses?
One Yue Titan was already enough to make anyone feel inferior. Now here come a few little girls on top of that, making you want to bash your head in and die. Are they even going to let the Sky Realm’s warriors live? No wonder Dongfang and Tianyu and their like were so bent on destroying the Sky Tower, like madmen. Now everyone finally understood. It was not that Dongfang and Tianyu were twisted in the head. It was fear!
Dongfang and Tianyu alike were afraid of being overtaken by the Sky Tower’s warriors… because the Sky Tower’s warriors grew so fast it was just too crazy, too freakish and too far beyond reason!
“Let’s take a look at the Sky Tower’s other divine-tier powers!” Storm Cloud squeezed a dry smile onto his face. Even he could feel how much effort that smile was costing him, and how awkward it was.
Please let the next divine tier be a bit more normal! Almost everyone was praying the same thing in their hearts. Facing peerless genius after peerless genius, the mental pressure was just too great. Luckily there were so many of them here; if there had been only one, it would have been a wonder if he hadn’t gone mad with fright on the spot. Almost as if by unspoken agreement, all of them chose not to look at the golden stars that stood for Yue Titan and the little girl “Wuxia,” in case the blow was so heavy that someone passed out cold.
“Why does it look like there are nine golden stars? That can’t be right. Didn’t she say the Sky Tower had only five divine-tier powers in these hundred years?” Wilds and the others counted them over and found the problem. There were as many as nine golden stars shown here, and several of the stars around the edges faintly showed signs of evolving into golden stars that would mark the divine tier.
“Are there really that many?” Xue Wuxia was surprised too. This was beyond anything she had estimated!
What on earth was going on?
