"Aren't you people going too far?"

An investigator had come out to meet him in the prosecutors' office underground car park, and Mun-jong Lee made no attempt to hide his displeasure.

"What is it you mean to question me about?!"

"There was testimony. And we have an obligation to investigate it."

"Come on. So if some old man walking past curses my name, you'll question me over that too? Where in the world is there a law like that?"

"The law is like that. And the person who gave the testimony isn't an old man walking past."

The investigator kept the smile on his face as he spoke.

"Even so, I'd ask you to understand that we've done what we could to show the Vice-Chairman every courtesy."

"Courtesy, what courtesy? Is this courtesy?"

"If we weren't showing you courtesy, we'd have received the Vice-Chairman upstairs."

The investigator was making the point that being met down in the car park was the courtesy itself.

"Ahem."

Mun-jong Lee knew what that meant as well, so he pressed it no further.

Because if he had been seen walking into the prosecutors' office at ground level, the reporters would have had the picture for certain.

"If you're not questioning me here, let's go in."

"Yes. I'll show you inside, then."

The investigator led Mun-jong Lee in, and Mun-jong Lee followed him to the Special Investigation Division inside the prosecutors' office, the investigator going ahead.

Mun-jong Lee went up after the investigator and was taken straight to the questioning room.

"What's this? Aren't we going to the District Chief Prosecutor's office?"

Whenever he arrived at the prosecutors' office Mun-jong Lee had always gone to the District Chief Prosecutor's office first.

He had naturally assumed the District Chief Prosecutor and the Deputy Chief would receive him and sit and talk; coming straight to a questioning room began to strike him as odd.

"In you go. The Deputy Chief Prosecutor said he'd start right away."
